Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange info between a web server and a client. As the information exchanged by the 2 sides is encoded, a 3rd party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of managing a website hosting account. The commands that can be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for example, the options are limited since you'll not have root access to the web server, so you could just create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, etc. They are all actions which are performed within the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. By using a virtual or a dedicated server, you will be able to set up server-side software or to restart the server or just a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like OS, there are plenty of apps for other OSs, which you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Hosting

In case you have a hosting account with us and you want to handle your content remotely using SSH, you may get SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your plan does not come with this feature by default, you could add it with several mouse clicks from the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the Control Panel, you will see the host, the port number and the username which you should use when you connect to the account. You may also pick what password you would like to use, as it doesn't have to be the same as the one for your account. We've prepared many Help articles in which you can easily find all of the commands that you'll be able to use with a shared hosting plan, plus examples of how they are used. Furthermore, if SSH access is permitted for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection via a standard client like FileZilla, for example.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

You shall be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server account via SSH regardless of which package you select when you sign up. With some plans, the feature is provided by default, while with others, it could be added as an optional upgrade for as long as you need it. You can find the required login information within the Hepsia Control Panel, included with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You may choose the password which you'll use and if you'd like, you can change it constantly with several mouse clicks for even higher security. You shall be able to see all the commands you can use beforehand, because we have listed them alongside examples of how they are used so as to carry out a specific task. Once SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is activated, you shall be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

The VPS server plans we offer come with SSH access as standard, not as a paid upgrade or a function which you have to activate. The minute your new server is ready, you'll be able to connect and start working on your content using the login details which you have entered during the order procedure. A copy of the SSH credentials will be sent to you via email as well. Because your VPS will be isolated from the other ones on the physical hosting server, there are no limitations in regards to what you can or can't do via SSH. You'll be able to download, install and manage any piece of software that will run on a Linux machine, reboot the entire server or simply a certain software component, and work with files, folders and databases without any restrictions. All you will require for that is a console or an SSH client on your end.
