An Operating System is the software which communicates with the hardware of a computer system and is the intermediary between the installed applications and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run software, it transmits requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the contact is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Identical to a personal computer, hosting servers also feature an Operating System which serves as a host for all of the software installed on them, which includes script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and many others. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so it is possible to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment compared to the physical server host Operating System.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

Our VPS server solutions include three Linux releases that you can pick from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being free, the OSs are very stable and secure and the main reason to offer you the 3 of them is to ensure that you'll be able to run any app that you would like, because different pieces of software have different requirements when it comes to the environment they work on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a large community of web developers who have made many hundreds of software packages which you can install and use on your VPS. Depending on the Operating System that you pick, you will also be able to choose between three different Control Panels to control your website hosting content. Also, if you decide that you need a different OS, we can always reinstall the server with it. As an optional upgrade, we also provide weekly updates of the OS for maximum stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page since we want to give you a wider choice regarding the system environment on the machine as different apps may have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a stable and safe web hosting service. Depending on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you have selected initially does not meet the requirements of the software that you'd like to run. We can also upgrade the OS routinely in order to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
